Sometimes, your Mac will require you to change your current password. In some cases, this is due to a policy change that has gone into effect.

When your password has expired, please follow one of the two options below.

Option 1 – Change password during sign-in.

If your account password no longer works, please restart your device. Once on the login screen, choose the affected account.

Enter the password you have for the account. When the prompt accepts the password, you will be presented with three forms:

  1. Enter your existing password,

  2. The new password that you will be using,

  3. And lastly the new password again for confirmation.

Option 2 – Change password within settings.

There could be a possibility that you are able to change your password from within settings. In that case follow the steps below:

  1. Open the settings application on your mac by either searching for settings in spotlight search or by clicking the apple logo in the upper left corner > System prefrences.
